13th Meeting Report - Wednesday 24th November 2004

Whites & Yellows Meeting

14 racers took to the Denton Raceway for the 2nd points meeting of the season. The new grading's had taken effect – so there were a few better drivers down in the lower grades – me included! Not to blow my own trumpet – but the track looked and raced well. Dunc had re taped a large section of the chicane and this left a really smooth surface around that area. There also seemed a lot of grip – but lane 4 was a bit slippy (ask Richard). Geoff Breeze couldn't make the night – so my dad (Dave) stepped in. Pete and Dunc both brought laptops – Brisca (RMSCC) Heat was on – through the night various racers had a play racing their Computer cars on Pete’s the laptop. My dad, Gary and Nige raced the most – my dad was well impressed with the graphics! Its gone a long way from my Spectrum 48k!

Heat 1 - Action with Pete, Big N and Y Jon.

Heat 1 - Saw Pete take an early lead, followed by Richard and Anthony. Kirky had a terrible start on lane 4 and didn’t finish a single race – however he would get better. Young Jon also had a slow start – he explained he was using his faster car, but it wouldn’t take a hit. His faster car didn’t look very stable. By Half Way Pete was the man to catch – however once Kirky got on the inner lanes he won 8 in a row – this took his points score through the roof – and put him right back in to it by the last set of races. Nige had a bad set of early lanes, he had put in a few good hits on young Jon – by the inner lanes Nige was back in business, but it was too little too late. Anthony also had a quieter night – but was just in the running for this one. In the end Kirky took a good win on 31 points, followed by Pete on 27, but he was tied with Anthony – but Pete had more heat wins. Young Jon was 4th – I thought he might have done better from his yellow grading (not for long).

Heat 1 winner Kirky with promoter.

Heat 2 - Mr promoter certainly had the bit between his teeth in this one – maybe it was because Rach wanted some chocolate – or maybe because I was running from the blue line. Anyway I had a strong start and took the early lead. Chris Crewe wasn’t far behind, and Hil was enjoying starting at white – her car looked better and she was enjoying her racing. Chaddy had some fun in this one – Chris fired him in to the wires and broke his wheel clean off – Chaddy wasn’t bothered but didn’t get Chris back – he may do soon though!! My dad was also a little rusty – he didn’t look as smooth as normal, but Dunc had a hard time passing him (Dunc built his car though – its too good!). Dunc himself had a quiet one – but as normal he gave 100% from the back and was enjoying his racing. In the end I took a win (and what could be my first heat win with my own car at Denton) – Hil snook 2nd place by 2 points from Chris – she raced well.

What can happen if you don't hitch the caravan up properly.
Heat 2 winner The promoter, Jon.

Consi time - A massive 10 car race – this was a good en. We raced 4 per lane. Dunc took the early lead, followed by chaddy and Gary. Young Jon had a quiet start, but was scoring quite well, and got a few race wins at the end that made all the difference. Richard was also back on the pace – he was back to his old car – which looked faster than his new one, but not as stable. Again Richard scored well on the inner lanes and took a few vital wins. This one was very close and I witnessed some great racing and bumper work. The top 3 – Y Jon, Dunc and Richard – all finished on 25 points each. With only 2 through this took it down to race wins. Jon and Richard made it through. How close was that!!!

Heat 1 - Action with team big, Pete and Big N again.
Heat 2 - Action with Dave and Dunc.

Final time - 6 cars took to the track for a cracking final. I took the early lead, but suffered on the outer lanes. However by the 2nd change Hil had took up an early lead, this was to be snuffed out though when Y Jon took lane 1 – a full house on this lane but him right in contention. He made the most of his yellow grade and his anchor was left in the car (Ask Richard and Chris about the Anchor!! Hehe) On lane 2 Jon also took a full house – 40 points out of 40 – top stuff. He was quick! However the points dried up when Richard and Pete got on his inside – making his races a lot harder. Pete was quiet – but he also took a full house on lane 2. Going to the last lane I was 20 points behind Y Jon – I had to win all mine and he had to fall off every time. I won all mine, but Y Jon did stay on and beat me by 3 points. Hil took a great 3rd, followed by Kirky, Pete and Richard. That was a good race. Young Jon is now safely back to a respectable blue grade – and hopefully straight to red very soon!!! Jon took the prize of the November Medallion – thanks to my mum and dad for their sponsorship

Consolation line up- Gets a bit close at the red top line.
Consolation and final winner Y Jon with meeting sponsor Dave.

GN – 13 racers took to the track – my dad wanted to get home early. Bless! We had 3 races per lane – I was keen to keep the racing flowing! Nige took an early lead and made the most of his starting position. Chris wasn’t far behind him, but Chris wanted to try and break the fence, but found he couldn’t – he couldn’t figure why, as the same car would hit the fence at the last meeting! Gary was also motoring well, he is starting to get to grips with his ex Ashworth, DS race car, which I think is his Nelson car. It looked great in its very Red FUBAR paint job. However Dunc had something to prove in this one! He was very quick and scored quickly. He only came off once during all of his lanes. Dunc took the win from Nige, and Chris. The rest of us made up the numbers! I am looking forward to seeing the scores for the GN championship (Sponsored by Team Big) It looks like the top four will be very close and it will go to the wire!

Last chance dive from Pete in the final.
GN winner Dunc with promoter.

So another meeting passed – this was another cracker with lots of bumper work and action. Thanks to all racers that attended. We were finished by 10 past 10, thanks for all being ready to race – its nice to get going at a decent time – especially on a work night. Also thanks to Dunc for his track work, and my parents for the food! Mmm lovely homemade cake!!!!
Roll on the 5th December – Club car round 3 at Denton. Should be a cracker!

Keep Smiling – enjoy your racing.
JON 92.
