14th Meeting Report - Sunday 5th December 2004

Club Car Meeting

Another full house for this meeting – unfortunately Hannah (Caths friend) couldn’t make it, along with Gwyn, who had van problems. However Alan (a friend of Gwyns) was passing to collect his new car – so he was asked to race. Alan had last raced scalextric many years ago, but hadn’t raced at RMSCC before. I also welcomed Louise – who also hadn’t raced at Denton. Welcome to both!! Tommy also made an appearance – he was a star (after he had jumped on most people!) – he later had a nosy on the track (hopefully we have a picture!) Anyway on to the racing:

First visit for Louise to Denton raceway. Enjoying a bit of Father and son pre-meeting entertainment on RMSCC 2 Heat.
A challenger to Kirky for fielder of the Year?

Well 7 racers took the challenge of heat 1 – as usual it was 2 through from the heats and consi. Heat 1 saw – Richard, Louise, Cath, Nige, Dunc, Chris and Alan take to the raceway. Richard – or should I now call him by his new name – caravan club member number 2!!!! - took a massive early lead – in fact I don’t think there was anybody else in this race – as Richard didn’t just only not fall off once, he only dropped one single point out of 20 races!!!! Defiantly a caravan club member! However there were others in the race – Nige did well and dished the bumper out, Dunc had a quiet race for his standard, but dished out the bumper when he could. Alan did very well in his first ever race – and was really starting to get the hang of it – very impressive. Well as I said early – the new Mr Caravan took the win with 59 – yes 59 points! - followed by Nige with 29 points, Dunc was 3rd with 25 and Alan 4th with 22 points. Chris, Louise and Cath made up the rest of the heat.

Heat 1 last race action with Dunc (2) and Cath's.
Heat 1 - Winner Richard with fellow Caravan Club Member.

Heat 2 – I took the early lead with some steady races on lane 4 – I had forgot that lane 4 is very hard – the slightest over throttle round the top end made my car hit the fence posts! Top stuff. Big J was also finding his feet – it was nice to see him back at Denton. By the 2nd lane Big J had taken the lead – however I took a maximum and lane 1 and re took the lead. Behind there was some great racing – Chaddy, Kirky, Gary, Hil and Pete were battling for points. Pete got me with some great hits later on in the race – however it was too late and I took the win – followed by Big J. Pete took 3rd, Kirky 4th, Hil 5th, Gary 6th and Chaddy 7th.

Heat 2 action Big J over cooking.

Consolation time – Mmm small problem here – there are 8 club cars – but 10 racers for the consi! Help. The decision was made to run 2 5 car mini consi`s with the winner from each through to the final. These consis were going to be hard and fast! The draw wasn’t the kindest and seemed to lead towards the fastest racers being in the 1st one. (apols I didn’t make the draw – I got somebody else to pick the numbers).

Anyway consi 1 was as: Chris, Cath, Gary, Pete and Dunc. Pete had the bit between his teeth and took an early lead – he was followed by Gary – who had a good lane 4. However he failed to score on lane 1 and this gave the initiative back to Pete. Dunc tried to hard to catch Pete and stick him in – however Pete had the edge and could get away (Dunc also had to get past Chris) The racing was good – but Pete was away and took the win and the place in the final.

Consi 2 - I didn’t see much of this race – however looking at the scores it was a close finish. Kirky and Louise took up the early running – followed by Cath. Alan and Hil had a harder race – they didn’t score as well as they did in their heats. In the end it was Kirky that snook the first place with 39 points – Louise was only 3 Points behind – that was close.

Before the final we had a little presentation to make – it was Cath's birthday on the 6th December – so as an early celebration Hil had got a lovely picture cake for Cath. We all sang happy birthday – well out of tune from me!!! And Cath got to make a wish!!! Hehe – Lee didn’t show up!!! Hehe 2!!! Only kidding Chick! The cake was lovely – yum!!! Happy 13th Birthday Cath!

Final time – This was a tough race – the winner would take away a lovely trophy (sponsored by my parents – thanks guys) and a hat full of points for the Club Car Championship. Myself and Pete made the early running – Richard had a slow start – his car wasn’t going round lane one at all – maybe the caravan had fallen off!!! Hehe Anyway by lane 2 Pete had taken a good lead – I was in touch, but Pete had too much for me and was cautious to get the points where he could, but was able to use the bumper where required – on me a few times as well!!! Nige had a late spurt of points, but Pete had this one in the bag. He won with a score of 46 – followed by Richard in 2nd place with 29 points. Nige was 3rd with 27 points, myself 4th with 26 points, Kirky 4th, 22 points and Big J 6th with 19 points. It was a good race with some good hits going in, the club cars are really suited to the Denton track.

Final Action with Big J (4), Pete (6), Kirky (1) & Big N (5).
Consolation and final winner Pete with meeting sponsor Dave.

GN time – We ran 2 races – 7 cars each. Top 2 went through to the GN final shoot out. We all ran from the blue line – this format gave way to some very fast and close racing – a lot of it was down to how fast your car went from the line. Also who you collected from the pack.

GN 1 – This was very close and there were some good battles – the fence was being tested as the racers battered through the field and dead cars. In the end it was down to the wire – Dunc took the win with 26 points, followed by Pete with 25 points – 3rd place was Big J on 24 points – very close!!! Alan did well and got a strong 4th – he was getting better as the meeting went on.

GN 2 – Kirky and Chaddy took a good lead in this one, I didn’t score a point until the 5th race – my caravan had really fallen off in this one!!! Hehe A lot of drivers fell off in this one but they were having fun – it wasn’t a very high scoring race though!! In the end Kirky got a maximum on his last lane – and this was enough to take the win. Chaddy took 2nd and was also through to the GN final. Cath, myself and Louise made up the rest of the field – me and Louise were tied with 10 – nothing to split us!

GN Heat 1 action with Big N (7), Dunc (3) and Pete (6).

GN final – Shootout with just 4 cars. This was a great race – with plenty of bumpers and action. Kirky took up the early running, followed by Chaddy. Pete and Dunc were struggling, but Dunc a maximum on lane 1 – there was 4 points for the win – so with these wins Dunc was right back in the running! Going in to the last lane Dunc was on 27, Chaddy 25 and Kirky 20 – The last lane was also a destructive one! Only Dunc and Pete finished twice – Dunc took 2 wins which was enough for the win and the sweets!

So then – that was the last meeting of the year, and what a year its has been. Thanks to all racers that have supported my track. It has been a great year and I have really enjoyed promoting and running meetings. I really think that Denton has been a good addition to the club – I have had some new racers to the club who have enjoyed their racing and I have also introduced some oldies that haven’t raced in a long time. The fence is unique and certainly adds to the Denton flavor– I am looking forward to 2005!
Big thanks to Dunc, my parents, my sponsors, DVD Dags, Gary Osborne Professional DJ and Fubar Racing. Also special thanks to the Pfiefers – who are regular visitors to the site – the American influence!!!! Top stuff!

More Pictures to follow so.

Thanks again to all racers!!!!
