Meeting Report - Thursday 6th January 2005

Denton Meeting Report Thursday 6th January 2005.

First Meeting of 2005 at Denton Raceway, its hard to believe that this would be the fifteenth meeting at Denton, and the fact that we have been racing here for over a year!!! Where has the time gone??

This was a classic meeting, a lot of great racing, some great moves and bumper work, and there were laughs aplenty! 13 drivers took to the track, Kirky had dropped out with the flu, and I hope you’re feeling better soon! However Lousie took his place, as she was first reserve. Also Geoff Breeze couldn’t make it – I must apologize to Geoff, I thought he knew about the date, my mistake! I will call earlier next time!

Ok then on with the racing. Heat 1 contained 7 racers. Richard and Nige took up the early running. Nige especially was in a bumper mood, he was using the bumper to good effect. He did catch Hil, who was a lap down, in one race, and put her in the wires, Hil wasn’t happy though! Doh! Anyway, the first change saw Young Jon start on lane one, he took a maximum score and then followed it up with 4 wins on lane 2. He was certainly on fire and made the most of his low grade (Jon is defiantly a Red top racer) – he also looked like he wanted to keep his big lead in the track championship. Richard kept Jon true, but Jon had the inner lane advantage. Meanwhile Pete had also started this one, but he had a terrible lane one and took zero points, very un Pete like. He did get it together later on but it was too late. Nige also failed to capitalize on his good start, and found himself coming off a little too much. In the end Young Jon took a strong win with 40 points, followed by Richard in 2nd with 30 points, and Pete 3rd with 27 points.

Heat 2 – 6 cars took the raceway for this one. I took up the early lead on lane one, however Big J, who was racing the Dunc spare, looked quick and was making the racing hard for me. By the 2nd lane it was very close between me and Big J. Chris Crewe had joined the fun, but had chosen the wrong car, and was struggling. When Dunc started his race, he took four wins out of 5, this put him right in the running. Meanwhile, Chris Clarke was also having some good races, but his consistency let him down. Louise also did ok, her new car (with Denton Advert! Thanks) looked good, but she struggled to get to grips with the track, however, our very own Chav (kidding) got better as the night went on. I finished my lanes with 31 points, and looking at the scores, the other could catch me. Dunc and Big J just couldn’t do enough. Big J finished with 30 points, Dunc the same (but fewer race wins). Chris Clarke got 5th with 25, Louise got 5th also with 25 (less wins), and Chris Crewe 6th with 23. 8 points from 6th to 1st – that’s close!

Consi time. As usual, 2 had got through from each of the heats, and there were 2 through from the 9 car consi. This was a great race with lots of action and bumper work. Big Alan, who was starting to get to grips with his car, took the early lead. Pete again had a bad start and only pulled 2 points, I'm sure Pete will be back to his best soon! Hil also got the bit between her teeth by lane 2 and was scoring well. However when Nige joined the racing, he made the most of his yellow grade and took a few wins, these strong results put him right in the running. He scored 23 points, would it be enough to get him through?? Dunc started strong, and he looked determined to get in to his first final of 2005 (it was his first meeting in 2005 mind!). Chris had also started well, he had swapped cars and this other car was much much better!! Alan dropped off a little, he was caught up between Dunc and Chris, and they were taking no prisoners. Chris Clarke, Cath, Pete and Louise all had quiet races and kept coming off too much to get the points going. In the end Dunc took the win with 27 points, followed by Nige with 23. 3rd placed Chris Crewe got 21 points, another close race.

Final time.

First of all the draw. 92, 6, 7 and 64 first lane!!!
A race where all three superstars made it round turn 2.

All from the Super Star line. First race result:
92 zero
6 zero
7 zero
64 4 points and the win!
Mmmm – we didn’t even do a lap!!! Hehe
We didn’t do too much better on race 2, me and Dunc crossed swords, equals no points!! Hehe x 2 In the end, Dunc made the better start and I had wasted lane one!

This race would favour Young Jon and Nige who were on next and on the inside of the so called Super Stars! Jon got the great start he wanted and was right in the running. However Nige was next on and he also made a great start with a max from lane one. This was going to be a race for 3rd!!! Myself and Dunc had a good scrap – I nudged Dunc off in one race, he got me back with a great hit (when he was on the outside of me). Good stuff! There was great racing in this one, Richard certainly made a race out of it when he got on lane one, he pulled a lot back, but in the end it was taken, by Nige on 42 points, Young Jon 2nd with 37, Richard a strong, 35, then Dunc, Me and Big J. A good race!
Nige picked up the Winter Trophy from the meeting sponsor – My dad, Nige also got away with a big block of chocolate!!

GN time – now I always forget what happens in these as I tend to be scoring them, and concentrating on the leaders. I like the GN's, as they are a real leveler, and the finalist certainly have their race cut out by starting half a lap down. Nige took up his spot even further back, as Final winner. One thing about this race – Nige did struggle a bit!!! Maybe the pressure was off, and he was chilling, or as GN's can go, you don’t get any luck. Anyway Nige scored 3 points, least it was a win!!! His team mat, Big J, didn’t do took much better and scored 6 points, that consisted of 3 seconds. Chris was determined to catch the caravan (that’s me) he did once (I was a lap down) and guess what, he broke the caravan, and I was in the wires!!! Hehe. I got Chris back later and waited for him, he didn’t see me and I legged him up! Good stuff!!! In the end Chris Crewe made the most of his red grade position and took a strong win. Pete was also back in the groove, but didn’t get the luck, he still took 2nd though. Louise also took a strong 3rd, and I finished as top finalist in 4th position.

Well that rounded off an excellent nights racing. Thanks to all racers who attended.

Young Jon’s performance means his lead at the top of he track championship increases. With just 2 meetings to go, it will take a major problem for Jon to loose that.

Thanks, again, to my folks, who have supported all of my meetings. The food was great, with the addition of Garlic Bread going down a storm!!! Bread and Garlic!!! Hehe As usual Cath nicked a load of sausage rolls and Hil hogged the peanuts!!!

Roll on next meeting.
Enjoy your racing.
