Meeting Report -Friday 13th May 2005

Just 2 weeks had passed since the last meeting here at Denton, so it seemed liked it was only yesterday we were last racing here. The weather was nice, but a cold wind had made my mind up that the track would be indoors. I was right about this, as the night went on it did get very cold outside. This was the first meeting on the new tyres so a few racers got here a bit early for a quick sprint round. I hadn't even put the track up when the first racers arrived.

Initial findings of the new tyre – a lot less grip than the old ones. I don’t clean the track, just the tape, so there was silicon down. You had to be more careful when you put on full power, especially on lane 4. Also to hit was quite skilful, as it was hard to judge when to get the power down in time. I thought the racers involved got better as the night went on.

Right 10 racers took the challenge – Team Big were missing, Nigel et al were at Skeggy for the speed weekend.

2 heats of 5 – nice and simple. 2 through from each heat.

Heat 1 – Cath was racing her DS racing special and made the most her lane 2 start, she took up the early lead, followed by Chris who was running from blue. Young Jon had a great start when he joined at the 1st change, his car was back on the pace after his poor first meeting. By half way it was between Cath and Jon for the win. Dunc was having a nightmare race, so was Pete, they were getting stuck in, but coming off worse. Clarky had his moments and always had a few nibbles at Dunc's back bumper. In the end it was Jon that took the win just 2 points ahead of Cath. A good race.

Heat 2 - I took up the initial lead with 4 wins out of 5, however as I went on the outer lanes I started to get worse! Richard joined me at the back and took a clean sweep of wins. So after the first set of races it was between me and Richard. However we didn’t count for Gary and Alan. Alan was running from white, he had a poor start but got better. Gary was on form and his car was flying. He also raced well and was hard to catch from blue. There were mutterings from Dunc and Richard about why they sold that car to Gary! Gary wasn’t bothered and pilled on the points. Hil had a quite race, but got me with a cracking hit when I was in lane 1. In the end Gary and Alan did enough to take the win and 2nd place. Myself, Richard and Hil would have to fight it out in the consi.

Consi - 6 racers – 2 places up for grabs. Richard and Pete made the early running, Pete especially had found the groove and was scoring well. Hil wasn’t far behind at the 2nd lane change. I made a good start and was also in the running. By half way Richard had completed all his lanes and had a score of 31 – would this be enough for the final? The draw had put myself, Dunc and Richard together – doh!!! We did better than last time we lined up like that! I was lucky and had the inner start. This proved very useful to me. Hil was flying in this one – when she got away she couldn’t be caught. Chris and Pete dropped off the pace at the end.
I had done enough for the win, Hil was only one point behind in 2nd, well done Hil. Richard, Dunc, Pete and Chris were the unlucky ones. They will be back though!

Final Time - Only one red top in this one – it was certainly a meeting for the lower graders. This race was all about one person – Alan. His glen built car was flying, and from white he didn’t mess around. Jon, Cath and Gary made the best of the fight to keep Alan in check, I also tried my best to catch him, but I was struggling in the traffic. Myself and Gary put in some good hits on each other, but this just worked for Alan. In the end Alan took the win with 60 points! Jon was 2nd with 33 points, I was 3rd with 26, Hil and excellent 4th with 25, Gary 5th with 21 and Cath 6th with 20 points.
A great race – well done to Alan, however he is straight up to yellow next meeting!!!

Jon hitting people, can't be true can it?

GN1 - Time was really going well, I think we ran this about 9.20 – so we decided on 5 races per lane, and decided to have some fun! Richard and Dunc made the most of there normal grading. Dunc especially had the bit between his teeth and took some strong wins. At the back straight it was a little tighter, Young Jon had a sticky hand break, and caused some chaos! It was good fun, with a lot of hits going in. A little quiet for a GN – but that was to change with an extra race (see below). For the record Dunc took a strong win, followed by myself and Pete who was right back in the groove.

Extra Race - We had time available for an extra race – non points we all started on the blue line with GN rules. This was the best race of the night – so many hits going in, but lunges, all 4 racers in the fence. The highlights for me were – 2 cars through the fence at the same angle! (Hopefully we have a picture)
Me and Y Jon banging our heads together trying to reach down for the start switch. Richard crying with laughter laughing at me and Y Jon!
Tommy humping Y Jon (don’t ask)Cath taking out Hil with a big hit – the look from Hil!!! Hehe

Alan and Chris interlocking.

A great race – just plane old fun, how it should be.

Anyway time to wrap up – a real classic meeting, thanks to all racers for making it a great night!!
Thanks to Hil for help with the grub!
Well done to all winners.
Look forward to the next meeting in June, which is a qualifier. Should be a cracker.

Keep smiling and enjoy your racing.

JON 92.
