Meeting Report -Friday 14th October 2005

I am writing this meeting report in the middle of working on the old Littleborough track, Duncan is presently working on the electrics , so I thought I would get on with this. The report may be a little shorter than normal, as Dunc is a fast worker! And I am needed soon to help stitch the track together and help with the fence.

Anyway on to Denton and the meeting report.

This was the first meeting of the season here at Denton, and it was a special meeting for me and my mum. In October 2004 my grandma passed away, with my mums blessing I ran the meeting. So this years meeting was a memorial for my Gran, with the final winner taking away the annual Grandmas trophy. Thanks to my mum for that.

14 drivers took the track. Big J had dropped out last minute – he sent his apologies. Chaddy wasn’t well, so get well soon Chaddy. However in their places were Ant – the new club gold and silver top. Great to se you racing at Denton Ant, and long time Reddish member, Pat Nestor. I used to race with Pat many years ago at Reddish and he had recently been in touch through the website and had decided to have a go. Welcome aboard Pat!

Heat 1 – Big N took the early lead in this one, he looked determined to grab a place in the final. Kirky had a terrible start and got no finishes on his first lane! Ant was also struggling a bit, he had pace but was finding it tough passing the slower cars. Richard had a flyer, he was dishing it about and getting stuck in, he was rewarded with some good scores. Pat was finding his feet and at first was a little slow, but by half way he was getting on the pace and staring to make a name for himself – read on for Pats use of the bumper later in the meeting!! By half way Nige was the one to catch he had racked up a good score and the rest were playing catch up. By the last lane Nige was safe, but 2nd was well up for grabs. It was really close, but in the end it was Kirky that took it, he was down to yellow and made the most of it! There was some confusion re his grading, but with checks he was a yellow. Kirky had 25 points, Richard and Pete 23, Pat 22, Ant 21 and Hil 20. That was close!

Heat 2 – I took an early lead in this one, followed by Cath and Dunc. Young Jon was having fun getting past Cath, both raced hard and fair. Alan and both Chris’s were having fun on their lanes, with Alan benefiting most! Chris 15 was having fun with Chris 24, exchanging bumpers (as normal!) but racing well! By half way I still held the lead, Alan was catching fast though. Dunc was also on my tail, he was dishing out the bumper with some force and was determined to make the final.
In the end I took the win, followed by Cath who made it with a full house of wins on her last lane. She beat Alan by 1 point, Dunc was a further 3 points behind.

Is this Jon hitting someone?????????????
Heat 2 favouritism?

Consi time.- As normal this was ultra competitive. Just 2 places were up for grabs. I didn’t see a lot of this race so I will go off the scores for the meeting report. I did hear plenty of laughs and shouting from the racing room, so I get the impression you had fun in this one!!! Pete took the early lead in this one, but seemed to struggled on the outer lanes, however looking at the line up he had Dunc, Y Jon and Alan on his inside, all very quick and hard racers. Dunc also had a good start, but seemed to keep scoring on the outer lanes which made the difference when it came to qualifying. By half way it was between Dunc, Pete and Alan, however Pete had finished his lanes and Young Jon was also on the scene. Noticed a tie in one race with Ant and Chris Crewe, that sounded like a fun race! In the end it was Young Jon that made it with 31 points, followed by Dunc with 28, Alan was 3rd with 27, Ant 4th with 25 and half points. Again very close!

Right final time - The draw wasn’t the best, for me anyway! I was on the outside of Young Jon and Dunc. Dunc had the best slot, as me and Jon kept knocking ourselves out on the start line. We discovered the best start was slow, but by then Dunc and Kirky were gone! Still it was a good race with some great hits and drives! I struggled on the later lanes, I couldn’t get going, Young Jon was also the same, so the fight was between Dunc. Kirky and Cath. Kirky made the most of his yellow grade, and Cath couldn’t quite find her heat form. Nigel was also struggling a bit, but was enjoying his racing. It was down to wire, both Dunc and Kirky finished on 44 points each. Kirky took it on heat wins, well done to both racers for making such an exciting race.
My Gran would have be proud!

GN time – Silly time, well you could have fooled me the way we raced in the first set of lanes. Anyway it did liven up later in the race when the big hitters came on. Richard was relishing the race so he could use the bumper, Ant wanted to get back to winning ways and Hil was also up for this one. All 14 racers decided to stay for this one, so as usual this was a cracker. In the end it was Ant that got his skates on and took a fine win, followed by Hil and Dunc (the highest finalist). Chris 15 was 4th and Alan 5th. Pat was staring to get in the swing of things in this one, he used the bumper to good effect on myself and Richard. Get stuck in Pat! Richard wasn’t mad, he just he will get even on track!!! The racing was all in good spirit, no body getting worked up! That’s what I like, just good hard racing.

Helter Skelter - GN rules, but all racers for the blue line. Time was getting on, but I offered this out as the last race of the night. All racers decided to stay, which I was really pleased about. This race was the best of the night, certainly a survival race with the most laughs being generated in the whole evening. The pressure is off as no points are awarded, but a prize was up for the winner. Not all races ended up as DD races, lots did last, but there were some comical moments, one where Nige, Ant and another tried to drive Hil through the fence post. Guess what, the post didn’t move but a few motors were melted! Plenty of broken bumpers and soldering was due after this one, but all racers went away with smiles on their faces.

Thanks to all racers for one of the best Denton meetings in its history. Everything worked out right and the racing was excellent. Maybe the atmosphere was up as we were back in the bedroom and not outside. (even though I enjoy the flood lit meets).
Thanks to my mum for the trophy and for being back on catering duty, the garlic bread and sausage rolls were fantastic! Thanks mum!

Roll on the next meeting at Denton, the club cars roll back in to town with a Halloween feel.

Enjoy your racing and keep smiling.
