Halloween Club Car Meeting

A spooky and paranormal feel to this meeting, No I hadn’t used my bumper in race, but this was the Halloween special at Denton. Building on the event last year, myself, Rach and Duncan put together a night for the little used club cars. We decided to go for a theme – and what could be better than Halloween.

Fancy dress was optional for this – I use the word fancy dress, well Chris 24 took it to the next stage and actually did turn up in a dress!!! What a sight, well done to you Chris, that takes some bottle. He looked like a million, a Million lira!! Im sure you have seen the pictures already, but Chris certainly made an entrance. I was scoring heat 1, and when Chris stepped in to the flat we all stopped! Big Ns face was a picture! Anyway – top man Chris!! He deserved the best dressed award!
Back row from left to right = Pete, Liz, Jon, Chris. Front Row Hil, Cath, Louise.

So then – this was a full house about a week after bookings had opened. I was really pleased we had a full house, as I didn’t know how popular the night would be, considering it was a Monday. Unfortunately Kirky couldn’t make it due to flu, I did see if anybody else was free, but to no avail. We had to change the format slightly but it didn’t affect the racing.

Welcome to Liz, who hadn’t raced at Denton before. Also welcome back to Louise and my dad Dave, who both hadn’t raced in a while. Pat Nestor also made a return – bless, I don’t think he knew what the club cars are like.

As usual the club cars entertained, they are really suited to the track here at Denton, and we stuck with the same format of a staggered start to close up the racing. We also introduced a trial where the heats were totally random (a pre meeting Draw) and we adjusted the scores, so 3rd place got zero! Hopefully there would be no caravans.

Anyway on to heat 1 - Dave and Alan took an early lead in this one, Pat was surprised with the lack of grip, but was having fun. It was a quiet start, but they soon got going and stuck in. By half way it was Gary who had taken a small lead, he was starting to find his feet and getting to grips with his car. Louise was also getting back in to the groove and took some good wins. With only 1 through Gary had done enough to take the win and the goodies!

Heat 2 - Cath was on a mission in this one, she looked good in her number 3 car. She kept scoring and winning, and did some amazing moves to get past Chris 24, when he was on the outside. Pete, Big J, Nige and Chris were having a lot of fun in this one. Trading bumpers and paintwork where they could. However it was Cath that outraced the lot and took a fine win and a place in the final.

Heat 3 – Well what a draw, I knew this would happen, myself, Dunc and Richard in the same heat!! Ooopsss. Quite a few wanted to watch this one and help out. We started off quiet, I had a good start, but Richard was never far behind. Dunc joined in on lane 1 and started to mix it up, by the time I was back on the 3 of us when in to silly mode and traded some great hits! Richard did the hit of the night, at easy end, Richard took both me and Dunc out with one move, he removed himself too, but it was a great move! Dunc got his own back and surprised Richard with some great hits from the outside lanes. In all we had a right laugh and the race reminded us what the club cars are all about. In between all this silliness, Liz and Hil had their own good race. Both struggled to get 2 grips with the club cars, but they had fun! In the end it was Richard who took the win, he beat me by 3 points!

Consi time - We split these in to 2 races, 6 cars in each. The winner of each was straight through, followed by the highest scoring 2nd place driver. Again theses were cracking races.

Consi 1 - Saw me and Pete having a good battle for the win, with Dave, Lou, Dun and Big J all in the mix. It was a fun race, but in the end it was Pete who took the win. Well done sir!

Consi 2 - Pat had decided safety was the best option, he did well considering he was next to Chris. Pat scored well at the start, but Chris wasn’t too far behind. Alan, Liz, Hil and Nige had fun and each took some good wins. Liz was getting better as the night went on, and started to leave it to the others to destroy each other – good policy Liz! Anyway in the end Pat took took a good win, followed by Chris.

Myself and Chris both finished 2nd, both with 20 points. On count back Chris took it with more heat wins. Well done fella.

Final time – the racers were up for a lovely trophy supplied by Dunc. This was a little quiet for a club car race, however where possible Richard, Chris, path and Cath were trading paint and bumpers where possible. Gary and Pete went for a safer option, they kept out of trouble and both raced well. It was so close, I thought that Pete had done enough to take it. But Gary took a full house on his last lane to sneek the win by 2 points. I got Nige to check it and the scores were confirmed. Gary took the win.

Not many action shots from this meeting.

GN time – All racers (apart from my dad) decided to stay for a GN. The cars had taken a bit of a battering, so we struggled to get a full compliment. 2 seven car races were organised, however the 2nd GN I had to stand down as one of the club cars broke big style! Never mind!

As usual these races are often the best of the night. All cars from blue and it was chaos!
Scores are often low, and GN 1 - Was no exception. 1st to last place was only separated by 5 points, 1st to 4th by 2 points. In the end Gary took the win. So that was a max for Gary, heat, final and GN. Gary took home a hatful of sweets and goodies.

GN2 – I didn’t see much of this, however I hard a lot of laughs coming out of the race room! In the end it was between Alan and Pete. Alan had a quiet night, but took a deserved win in this one!

Another win in the GN 1 for Gary with Louise.
GN 2 winner Alan with Louise.

So then, that wrapped up another great meeting here at Denton. I wanted to say a massive thank you for to all racers – you make the meetings guys!

Also a massive thanks to my sponsors – Cath, Hil and Richard for heat, consi and final prizes. Dunc for the excellent final winner’s trophy. Liz Louise and Chris for the extra awards. These went to Chris for best dressed, and Nige for best wearer of a pink Stetson! Don’t ask.
Pete – thanks for the scrummy flapjack – with plenty of chocolate as well!!
My folks too for the lovely catering, the hot dogs went down well! Also a special mention to Rach – she puts up with having a track in her house, and a pile of people round every month, ad also for making lovely worm (not real) cakes! Xx

Thanks again to all racers –

Looking forward to the next meeting.

Keep smiling and enjoy your racing.
