Whites & Yellows Meeting

Another Denton meeting to report on – this one opened with a white and yellow race.

Nige, Chris, Alan, Jane and Hil took to the track to race to the death, well score the most points and win. This was a good race – Chris 24 was going from white and looked good, however it was win or bust for Chris, he kept getting caught up with back markers. Hil took a more steady point collecting approach, while Nige was also win or bust. Alan didn’t have the best race, but started to find his feet later in the race, Jane had a steady race, her re-worked car looked steady and she looked more comfortable racing it. In the end we had the closest finish to race at Denton for a long time. 3 on the same points for the win! Chris 24 took it with 7 race wins (that’s all he had!). Jane 2nd with 5 wins, and Nige 3rd 2 wins. Well done all.

Ok then heat time. 12 racers in total were a this meeting. It was a very cold night – no chance of racing outside!!!!!
2 heats of 6 were the order of the day –
Heat 1 - Chris and Dunc took up the early running, Alan was not too far behind. By half way it was Cath and Chris with 24 points each. Dunc and Alan both had good lane 1 and 2s and this made up the difference in the end. Richard, Y Jon and Cath all influenced the result, but they weren’t consistant enough to make the final. Alan took the win, followed by Dunc. By this time we had noticed the fence was looking a little worse for wear. Its normally quite tight but the wires were looking a bit limp!!! A treaded screw in one of the tension connectors was to blame. A quick trip to Richards car for some tie wraps, a quick repair by the fence man Dunc, and we were back up to speed! Thanks fellas!

Whites and Yellows Heat winner Chris 24 with Promoter.
Heat 1 winner Alan 11 with Promoter.

Heat 2 - Early running in this one was made by Hil. I wasn’t too far behind, but Pete was making me run a little faster than I am normally. He didn’t let me go and where he could he used the bumper to great effect to knock me off the track, he put in a couple of great hits. By half way it was between myself and Hil. Nige, Jane and Kirky were getting in each others way, with jane making the most of her white start and where possible she was running away with the win. By the last lane it was really close. Pete had won 5 out of 5 on lane 1 and was right back in the mix, Jane also had a good lane 1 and was also in the mix for the win. Not a lot of people scored in their last lane, making this a very close ending. Jane took a good win, followed by myself, Pete was just a point behind in 3rd, Hil another 2 points back in 4th, Nige was 5th, Kirky 6th.

Consi time - 8 cars were up for this one. With just 2 spaces in the final up for grabs, as usual this was going to be tight. Young Jon had a better start than in his heat. His new car was getting better and he stayed out of trouble on the inner lanes to rack up a good points score. Pete, Chris and Cath seemed to be getting in each others way. Nige and Richard were on later in the race and they also started to score well. Richard was getting to grips with his new car, and round the outer lanes he was finding some grip! In the end young Jon had scored enough to take a win, just 1 point ahead of Richard. A good race.

Heat 2 winner Jane 33 with Promoter.
Consolation winner Jon 91 with Promoter.

Final time - 6 drivers took up the challenge. Dunc and Alan took up the early running, but it was Dunc that made the most of his lane 1 start. Taking 3 wins and 2 2nds on lane 1. Dunc kept up the winning ways, even with Young Jon on his inside. Richard, myself and Jane were struggling a bit, especially myself and Richard, as later on in the race we just couldn’t keep away from each other, going in to the chicane at the same time and both not finishing many later races!!! In the end it was between Dunc and Alan, Alan had a great end to the race, but a slow start to the race had meant he was playing catch up. In the end Dunc took a great win, followed by Alan, Richard, Y Jon, myself and Jane. A great race!

GN Time - Everybody bar Jane stayed for this one. So 11 cars took to the track. The first 5 set of lanes were great – proper GN action with hardly any finishes. Well, Dunc, Richard, Chris, Pete, Nige and Young Jon were on. Sparks were flying through this one! The bumper was being dished out in large amounts – it was great to watch! By the later lanes it had calmed down a bit, saying that I was on track along with some other point scorers. Anyway in the end it was mr caravan, myself, who took the win, followed by Kirky, who had a quite night by his standards and Pete in 3rd.

Top Left - Final winner Dunc 6 with Promoter.

Above - Promoter Jon 92 winner of the GN

Left - HS winner Kirky 46 with Promoter.

Helter Skelter race - Nige now calls this a Demolition Derby – as most racers don’t do more than 1 lap. That was true in this one. So many great hits and bumper work in this one! Normally by this time at night most racers wait in the front room, not this race, most come and watch!!! The camera round out of disc space, there was so much going on. 1 highlight was Richard clearing the fence, 91 was behind, but Richard was pushing himself to get somebody in front. Still Richard cleared the wires a treat!! Richard also hit Kirky so hard that Kirky rattled half way round the fence, but Richard was left right (an I mean right through) the wires! Both racers were laughing about that one! Anyway for the record it was Kirky who took the win and the sweets! Well done sir.

Well another meeting done – the last for 2005! A great year at Denton, thanks to all racers. A great meeting with plenty of laughs and great racing.

See you all soon

Enjoy your racing and keep smiling.
