Meeting Report -Sunday 8th January.

13 racers were up for this meeting, it was the first meeting at Denton in 2006, and the first for over a month. Great to be back in the groove here at Denton, also great to see Steve “Budgie” Burgess 389 back racing, he was racing my spare car. We had also fixed the fence! It took a trip to 3 B and Qs to find the right part, and yes Nige, we have bought 2, incase the other one breaks too!! hehe

Right on the racing.
Heat 1 - 7 cars took to the track, a few racers noticed the new red and white barrels I had painted over Christmas, these were safely away from the action, until later in the meeting anyway! Dunc and Jane made the best starts in this heat, however Jane had a poor lane 4 and wasn’t in the running by the end of the race. By half way it Chris, Alan and Gary had come to the track, and they started to score well and put Dunc under a bit of pressure. One of the moves of the race was when Chris got caught in a pack of cars and flew straight off the track and on to the floor, Big J nearly caught the car!! Well in his you know where’s anyway! Gary managed to smoke his motor, Jane picked it up shouted, it’s burning and threw it down on the track nearly breaking his aerofoil! Gary’s face was a picture! In the end it was Dunc that took the win by one point from Alan, then Gary, Chris, Kirky and Budge. A good race.

Heat 1 winner Dunc 6 with Promoter.

Heat 2 - Pete took an early lead in this one, quickly followed by Richard and Cath, who was making the most of her yellow grade. By half way it was a bit different, I had done well on lanes 1 and 2 along with Big J, who had started poorly on lane 1, but got better on the outer lanes, again from his yellow grade. At half way, I had a slight lead over Cath. The 2nd half of the race wasn’t good for Richard and Pete, they didn’t have the best of luck in this one. Big J certainly got in the groove and scored well in the 2nd half. In the end I took the win followed by Big J, Pete, Cath, Hil and Richard. Another tight race.

Consi time - Just the 2 through, so as usual this was going be a tight one! Maybe a clear head and a bit of luck would take you through. Budge took the steady approach and did well from his blue grade, he was starting to get back in the groove and managed to stay out of the way enough to rack up a good score on his 4 lanes. He would be the one to catch. Richard and Jane were having fun, Jane wasn’t as quick at Denton as she is at Littleborough, maybe it was the draw, but the pair of them spent a lot of time not on track. Pete was the same, if something was going to hit him, it did, and he also suffered on the kink, even on lane 2. Gary was the man on a mission in this one, maybe the draw was good, but he still had Chris and Pete to deal with. Cath was also in the mood, she despatched Richard twice in the last set of lanes, ah the scholar and teacher! Ask Luke Skywalker what its like! Bet it was a long home drive to Colne! In the end nobody could match Budge for the 2nd slot, and Gary took a fine win. Again another good race.

Consi winner Gary 53 with Promoter.

Right final time - 4 blues, 1 yellow and a red in this one. A good draw would help you! Anyway Dunc made a good start on lane 1, followed by Big J. Budge was suffering a bit in this one, maybe he still needs a little more practice, but well done for getting in it Budge! I had a great start on lane 1, the draw was good for me, but Gary joined me the next lane and I couldn’t match his pace. By half way it was Dunc, Big J, Myself, Gary, Alan and Budge taking up the rear. In the 2nd half of the race it was all about Gary and Big J. Gary was flying and was enjoying his inner lane spot, he was inside of me and Alan and had the jump on the pair of us. Big J made it tight for him, but in the end Gary took a fine win. Big J got a strong 2nd, followed by myself, Dunc, Alan and Budge. A great race to be in, cheers guys! PS – special thanks to Cath for scoring this, she did a great job!

Final winner Gary 53 with Promoter.

GN Time - Right I can never remember these races, so I need the score sheet to help me. This race is one of my favs as drivers tend to chill out and get a bit more stuck in. This was defiantly the case in this one. More than usual the bumpers were flying in at every bend, there were a lot of laughs coming from the back room. Richard really took the bull between the horns in this one and top scored with 45 points, not bad eh! Hil also raced really well to take a strong 2nd. Chris was 3rd. The highest finalist was the winner, Gary, he came 5th, well done sir. He survived the madness!! I tell it was mad!

GN winner Richard 7 with Promoter.

Helter Skelter - Could this one get any dafter than the GN, well yes! Kirky was the meat in quite a few bumper sandwiches! Kirky just seems to have a big red cross on his car in these races! I’m sure the many 100s of pictures that Dunc will be searching through tonight (Sunday) will show some of the great hits. As this race is none points scoring and a little bit of fun, we moved the barrels on the track. Just outside the contact area. I then offered a prize for the first person to hit one, Pete did!!! Well done! I then offered an extra prize for best hit of the race. I was a little slow doing this, and I didn’t tell the guys until 1st change (checking what prizes I had) Richard was gutted as he missed a lane where he could have won it!!! Anyway in the end the best bumper was used by Cath, who had been dishing it out all night! I don’t know who was too bothered who won this ace, but for the record it was Alan, well done Sir.

HS winner Alan 11 with Promoter.
First person to hit the barrels Pete 88 with Promoter.
Hit of the meeting winner Cath 38 with Promoter.

Right that wraps up another excellent meeting here at Denton.
Thanks to all racers, especially the scorers and fielders.
