Meeting Report - Sunday 9th April 2006

First meeting of the new season at Denton, we had 15 drivers up for this one, which is great for a non-graded meeting.
A slightly different format was adopted for this meeting, and I also weighted the racers as Team Fubar were running a little late.

The format was – 3 heats, 5 cars in each.

Heat 1 – Kirky made the strongest start, followed by Bernard. This was Bernard's first race at Denton, but he quickly got in the groove. By half way it was still Kirky who was in the driving seat, however Ant and Big N were improving on the inner lanes.

By the set of races it was:
46 on 31 points
66on 22
10on 19
1on 26
33on 5

The last lanes would make all of the difference. Nige won the first 4, Ant struggled. By the last race on the last lane, Ant had 29, Nige had 31. Last race – Nige was leading by miles, Ant was 2nd, the others had gone. Ant slowed to let Nige go, but Nige climbed all over him. Ant took the win, 3 points and the heat win. He beat Nige by 1 point! Pete had been watching the race and scores, and we both checked the scores. Nigel's face was a picture when I explained it was all on the last race!! Ant was apologetic, but Nige said he would get him back!!! All in good spirits!

Heat 2 - I took an early lead in this one, followed by Gary, it was lead I kept to the end. I got some lucky breaks and the caravan was hooked up! Not the highest scoring race at Denton, but Chris, Gary, Pat and Pete had some fun! Gary took 2nd from Pete.

Heat 3 - Team Fubar were all in this one, they had appeared just in time. It was Hardcore Stew who took the early lead, he made the most of his white top status and the others had a few problems catching him. Cath was, as usual, having fun, she started a book out in this one of drivers she wanted to get back! Dunc isn’t at the top of it mind! Stew took a good win in this one, the rest were knocking each other from pillar to post though! Dunc got Stew with a cracker on the last race!

2consis were set for this meeting, 6 in each, 2 from each. 7 car final.

Consi 1 - Nige had the bit between his teeth in this one – I think he wanted to get in the final with Ant! He maintained his early lead throughout the race. So this was a race for 2nd place. Pete and Bernard were up for that 2nd spot. It was close between the 2 of them, but at the end it was Pete who had the inner lane advantage. He took it well to take 2nd.

Consi 2 - Gary was the man on the mission at the start of this one. Dunc was also back in the groove and scoring well. By half way it was between the 2 of them for the win, Richard, Pat, Jane and Hil were having fun, but not scoring that well. In the end it was Dunc that took the win, from Gary.

Final - 7 cars in this one. Pete made the early running and he took a max on his first lane. Stew was the nearest to him, but the others were struggling.
Gary made a strong start, but suffered on the outer lanes. Pete kept scoring well and ended his stint with a healthy 40 points. It was up to the rest of us to catch him! Stew was quick, but couldn’t stay out of trouble, same with Ant who was getting caught in the traffic. Myself Gary and Dunc had our moments, but we couldn’t get any consistency to our race. In the end it was Pete who took the final win, Gary was 2nd, I was 3rd.

GN time - Everybody in this one, apart from Ant and Bernard who had to get going back to town for some clothes for their shop. This was a good race, as usual the finalists were half a lap down and we had no fielding. As usual the bumpers were flying in this one. Pat and Richard had a good do – exchanging a few big hits. Neither seemed to want to settle that one, and their scores showed it! All good clean fun! I enjoyed this race, but I got some stick for winning it. I don’t know how I did win it, but I got some stick. Another caravan was 2nd – Pete! A good race mind, apart from the result!

Caravan race - The best race of the night! What can I say, massive hits, loads of action!!!! It was a brilliant race. Kirky got plenty of stick, same with me! Infact Dunc nearly put me over the fence and on the floor. A great hit!!! I'm sure the pictures will give this race the justice it deserves! A great ending to a cracking meeting.

Right - Just needed to cross the line.

Well thanks to all racers who made this such a good meeting. The racing was spot on and it was all done within a quick time. I'm so pleased the fact that I am non graded has not put anybody off. I had some great feedback from racers and that is really appreciated. I cant wait for the next meeting, which is early May and final sponsored by DS Racing.

I will also try and get a bit more grub – I was a little short in that area as my folks are away. It all went though.

Keep smiling and enjoy your racing.
