Meeting Report - Sunday 7th May 2006

We started off by putting the track outside, well under a Gazebo – bad idea, as soon as the track was out it started to rain, and rain and rain!!! So plan B, back inside!! Don’t trust the weather in Manchester eh!

Right on to the racing. We had 9 cars for the meeting. Budge was due on his way, so we had him in heat 2. However during heat 1 he called to say he was still doing his washing, (it was my dad who reminded him about the meet earlier). So sadly we were one down as Budge was washing his smalls!!!

Heat 1 - Young Jon (sporting a new car I think?) took up the early running, I wasn’t too far behind. Pete and Kirky also made good starts. By Half way it was between Pete, Y Jon and myself. I had the inside lane though and was scoring quite well. My dad had his moments and was enjoying his racing. In the end it was me that took the win (and the place in the final) The rest would be in the consi.

Heat 2 - My dad and Pete rolled over to this race (to make 5 cars). Pat took the early incentive in this one, quickly followed by Pete. Dunc had a slow start, but was quickly in the groove and scoring well. By half way it was Pete and Pat. However Dunc had the inner advantage. Hardcore was scoring slowly, he wanted to go back to white!! Tough! You can only go down by 1 grade!!1 hehe. In the end it was Dunc that made the most of the inner lane and took the win by 3 points. Pat was unlucky in 2nd.

Consi - 3 through to make a 5 car final, so there was a lot to go for. This was the closest race of the night, the scores were very close throughout the race. It seemed like all racers had good spells and bad ens!! Young Jon looked very quick, traffic was his downfall, Hardcore also looked a little better (maybe getting used to blue!), so did my dad. Pete also wanted a place in the final. At the end it was Young Jon who took the win, 1 point ahead of Hardcore, who was 1 point ahead of Pete! Unlucky for Kirky, Dave and Pat. A great race!!! Very close!

Final - 5 cars were racing for the lovely engraved glass tankard that was kindly supplied by Duncan. Thanks for that fella! Young J made a clean sweep on his lane 2 start, he was flying. I was on lane 1 and couldn’t do anything! I couldn’t catch him. When Dunc came on Y Jons inside he made it a little more difficult for him, but Y Jon was flying!!My race got worse as I went on the outer lanes!!! gutted! Hardcore and Pete were racing well, but by half way it was down to Young Jon and Dunc to fight this one out. In the end Young Jon had lane 1 to finish, he got a clean sweep and this guaranteed him the win and the prize!!! Well done Jon.
Dunc got 2nd, Stew 3rd, Pete 4th me 5th. A great race – thanks guys.

GN – A little quieter than normal, there were some great hits though! I love these races as the bumper will fly, Stew was using this as a practise for using the bumper, I got hardcored a few times!! Do you want a booking next meeting??? hehe It was my dad who was flying in this one, he stayed out of trouble and was motoring at a fine rate of knots! Pat was also back in the groove – he was missing Cath!! kidding!! hehe Young Jon and Stew had a great battle – Y Jon stuffed Stew well and truly later in the race – a class hit as they both very in the fence!! nice one fellas! Well my dad took a fine win (his first at Denton I think!), followed by Pat, Dunc and myself in 4th. A good race!

Caravan race – Another cracker!!!! The caravans are a firm fav here at Denton, and this race was up to the expected standard! Plenty of massive hits and follow ins!!! Some nearly burnt out motors too!!! Dunc tried to launch as many vans over the fence, but no luck this time. My dad (1st time in a caravan race) was well in to it, and managed to drive right under a van! Nice one dad! Guess who won this one – the original caravan (no not me!!) …. Pete. Well done sir! I was 2nd and Y Jon 3rd. What you would have down as the top 3 caravan racers in the club!

Helter Skelter - 7th race on the card – and Pete had raced in all of them!!! Value for money or what!! This was a good en. Plenty of big hits (as we all went from the blue line). I really enjoyed this race! A certain somebody forgot it was a helter skelter (until about 3 from the end and he said “this is a Helter Skelter??”) he scored a very high 30 points!!! 30 points!!! Young Jon took the win!! Pat was 2nd 12 points behind!!! Kirky 3rd, 15 points behind the winner! A great end to a great days racing.

Massive thanks to Duncan for supplying a fantastic winners tankard – it was really different and well worth winning. Thanks Dunc.
To my mum and dad for food and for my mum doing the catering! Thanks mum.
Big hugs to Rach – she is right at the end of her 4th year at Uni and is very very busy. Gain she was moved out for this. Thanks Rach xx.

The last thank you goes to all of the racers – a massive thanks to you all for attending and making the meeting as good as it was! Really appreciate it fellas!

Looking forward to the next meeting here next month.

Keep smiling and enjoy your racing.
