Meeting Report - Sunday 2nd July 2006

George – Showing that he's no caravaner!

July's Denton meeting saw 12 drivers take to the track. Pat hadn’t got the message about the racing (my fault), Big J had sent a sick note (hung over!), big girl eh!!
Anyway this meeting was also the first short track championship qualifying round at Denton.

The weather had been very hot all weekend and today was also a scorcher – it was really hot through out the meet, and luckily for us, it was a day meet. About 6pm the heavens opened and it was thundering and lightening!!! The gazebo went flying and one of the legs nearly snapped!!! Anyway we were racing in the sunshine.

Heat 1 - Nige had the bit between his teeth in this one, and made a strong start, he was quickly followed by Dun. My dad, Kirky, Pete and Stew were finding their feet, Kirky especially looked a little rusty. By half way, it was a 2 way race, between Dunc and Nige. Nige sneeked a good win by 1 point from Dunc. Dave got a strong 3rd, Stew 4th, Pete 5th and Kirky 6th. A good race!

Heat 2 - Cath was back in this one and made a great start, Dan was also up for a final place. His new car was flying! Good to see Richard on track, in a Cath spare, he was finding his feet with a car (which hadn’t raced for a long time!!). Well Mr caravan – me took the cautious approach and picked up some 2nds and 3rds!! Well enough to take a jammy win, followed by Dan who was really flying round the track. Cath had struggled on the outer lanes, along with Chris Clarke, Richard and Hil. We had a special mention in this one, young George (Rachael’s god son) had come to say hello – he thought it would be fun to start the races – he made a great job of starting the races with a jolly, 3,2,1 GO!! in most races. See later for his special prize!

Consi - 2 places were up for the final – this one would be a tight one! Richard was in a Dan spare and looked a lot more on the pace, Chris was also racing his other car and he also looked better. There were some good battles all away round the track, with plenty of bumper work. A good race to watch – maybe not one to be in mind! In the end it was Richard who took the win, followed by Chris. Well done both!
Final - I enjoyed this one – I had a bad start though. I totally forgot Richard was next to me (he was racing dans spare car) and I was stuffed quite a few times by Richard (in the Dan spare) the penny dropped and I remembered it was Richard!!! Doh! Dunc had a good start, I got in his way (twice) due to dodgy controller – sorry about that (luckily the winning margin was more that 8!). However this race was all about number 29 – he was flying and took a fine win!! Up to Superstar next week eh Dan!!! Dunc took 2nd, Nige 3rd, Richard 4th, Me 5th and Chris 6th. It was close for the last 4 places – only 2 points in it! Well done to Dan for taking the win!

GN - The last couple of GNs have been a bit quite – but this one was a lot lot better than norm with some great racing and bumper work. Special mention to Pete, Dunc, Kirky and Dan, who raced the last 5 lanes and didn’t score anything between them! Great racing all of you! Thanks for making the race very watch able!!
Dave took a fine win in this one (2 wins in 2 weeks) – well done. Team Prior were 2nd and 3rd.

Caravan – What can I say – these are just really fun races! Best moments – Cath nearly launching car and caravan off the track – the caravans fall was only halted by the fence (see pic) great move Cath. Also Niges attempted hit on lane 4 – he missed the lot the pilled up in front of him! Que lots of laughs and giggles!!
Young George having a go – he did well and raced better than Uncle Jon!
Right that wraps up another great meeting at Denton. Really got going from the consi onwards and we had some great racing!
Thanks all racers for having some fun and enjoying it!
Special thanks to my mum and Rach for the excellent hot dogs (thanks too to my dad for bring them the night before)– somebody had 3 of them (not me!!! – well I had 2 and half!) this somebody normally cant eat his chips at Cov, where I have fail even more! Anyway there goes any help with my car!!!!
Special Special thanks to young George – he was great as Mr starter and could teach a few real starters a thing or two – he really deserved his special prize (see pic).

Enjoy your racing and keep smiling
