Meeting Report - Tuesday 31st October 2006

Standard Car Meeting
Pete Stanford

Halloween Special – ooohh spooky!!!!!

Various sites entered the flat around 7pm onwards – with and without costumes!!! Hehe Only Kidding!!!!

Costumes –
Cath went for a contemporary witch, with wings and a bat wand!
Chris went for the scream 1 look – with knife accessory (Left).
Stew was the Grim reaper – with authentic scythe
My mum was a wizard – and she magically whipped up great food!
I went for a pumpkin mask – I looked more scary with it off!!!

Great costumes one and all!!!

This was the 1st meeting using the standard cars – Dunc had only finished them 3 days ago, and Richard had finished the paint yesterday (30th). The cars were finished off just before the meeting – wheels and tyres were added, along with braids. I had a panic with the braids – I couldn’t find them and thought I had sold them off!! Luckily I found them in time!

The cars looked great – Dunc and Richard had enough time to oil them and Cath took them for a quick few laps. Then it was straight on to heat 1.

Heat 1 - Most drivers were getting used to the cars – the grip level was spot on – not too much but enough to get you motoring. Breaking points and hitting points were still being found. After the first set of races – Pete made the strongest start. He made the most of his outer lane start; we had staggered the starts so lane 4 went from white etc. This has been proven to work and it worked today!!!!! It was Cath, however, that seemed to be staying out of trouble and getting away, looking at the scores she was well away with it by half way!! So it was a race for 2nd. My dad and I were having a bit of fun, especially when my dad found the bumper!!! Top stuff!!! Pete struggled on the inner lanes, while Richard was having fun, but not scoring so well! He had a big smile on his face mind! Pat was also having fun – he wasn’t scoring though! Cath took a fine win – followed by myself. The rest were in the consi.

Heat 2 - Drivers in this one had a better idea of how the cars were going to handle – so there was a bit more strategy in this one. Still it worked well with lane 4 picking first. There was another element of luck with the car selection. Gary was the man on the mission in this one – He really scored well. Chris was having fun in this one, along with Dunc, the pair of them we knocking lumps out of each other. They both didn’t score so well though. Stew was after Y Jon in this one – he nailed Jon on the non chicane end and that set the tone for the race.
They both were guilty of a few dubious hits – I think the grim reaper was after Y Jon for something that happened at another meeting. Anyway – they eventually settled down and got on with the racing! That’s the way! Hil was racing well, she stayed out of trouble and scored consistently. In the end it was Gary that won by a country mile – Hil got a well deserved 2nd place.

Consi Time - 2 places were up for grabs for the final. There was a little more of a cautious approach in this one, most racers were now used to the cars. The outer lanes especially were getting good results. It was a case of keeping it smooth and out of trouble. This was a good race, with plenty of good bumper work. Richard and Y Jon showed their experience and took the win and 2nd place.

Final time - Gary made the best start from his lane 1 start, he looked good. I made the worst start – 5 races no points!! Hey ho!!
By Half way Gary had a slight lead, however he struggled on the outer lanes. It was Y Jon and Richard that were making the progress, and Richard took a good win, with Y Jon 2nd. A good race.

This ended the last standard car race. Overall they had been a massive success. They ran really well, with just the right grip levels. The cars them selves looked fantastic. Dunc had worked hard to get them finished on time, and Richard had applied the final touches with the paint. They will, hopefully, be signed for their next outing.

GN - This was raced with peoples own cars – the difference in car speeds and grip was scary! I enjoyed this race – it was a good en. I can’t really remember too much about it, apart from Gary was flying and so was Chris. Chris took a fine win and took away the goodies!!

Right that wrapped up the Halloween special – a great nights entertainment, a great social night.
Thanks to the meeting sponsors – Cath and Hil. The prizes were brilliant! Thanks!!
Also thanks to my folks for the lovely buffet and to Rach for putting up with it all!!

Roll on the next meeting – see you soon!

Keep Smiling – enjoy your racing.
